1. Elizabeth Warren and Amelia Warren Tyagi have written one unconventional and scaring book. As we know, we are a credit card generation and seek a comfortable and luxurious life which is unaffordable sometimes. We are spending our future money in pursuit of a better life. This phenomenon is especially common in the middle-class. It seems that this lifestyle is admirable and correct. However, in this book, Warrenwarns this lifestyle may lead us into a risky situation where we face the risk of bankrupt at any time.
Recently, there is an increasing craze in the middle-class parents to pursue a good education and a good living environment for their children, which means they shall earn a lot of money to purchase the house with a good school or with a good environment they can afford. Faced with such great economical burden, they have to become a two-income family. Normally, it seems that they shall lead a happy and comfortable life with the increasing income. However, unfortunately, with the increasing extra expenses, they are busy with paying off the credit cards debts without little disposable money. As a result, they are stuck in an unprecedented crisis. If there is an emergency happening, for example, one of them lose the job, they may hardly pay off the debts. Then they may be trapped in the bankrupt.
This is generally blamed on overconsumption and claims that we are a credit card generation that it is paying the price for its free spending ways. On one hand, undoubtedly, credit spending will stimulate the purchase of goods to accelerate the economic development. To some extent, it plays an irreplaceable and fatal role in solving the financial problems ofMiddle America. On the other hand, it pushes people into a dangerous situation where people wantonly spend their present income even their future income without any savings. Gradually, people will be addicted to a bad financing habit. This consumption habit is on the hazard and risky. The financial crisis happening inAmericais the best evidence.
3. According to the statement of Warren and Tyagi, this is not necessarily the whole story. Instead, according to the recommendation put forward by Professor Warren, it is not advocated that everyone have exactly precisely 50/30/20 budgeting, but rather, except for certain temporary circumstances, at most 50% for fixed must-have expenses and at least 20% for savings. Thus, 45/35/20 is fine, as is 40/35/25, depending on the personal preferences and situations.
As far as I’m concerned, I agree with what Professor Warren and Tyagi propose. We are supposed to form good finance habit. It is not wise to spend all of our money to chase something we can’t afford regardless of the future arrangement. If we do so, what if we meet something urgent or unexpected? After all, everything is possible. Thus, to me, the most reasonable and wise solution is to spend at most 50% on fixed must-have expenses and at least 20% on savings. Then, we will set aside sufficient money to deal with any emergency without fear of an attack from the rear. Thus, spend your income reasonably for the benefit of yourself. Only in this way can we hardly get stuck in the danger of bankrupt.
