Should The Education System In China Be Reformed?

Learning and education is the key to one’s future and the gateway to our society separately(Antony). As the old sayings said, ‘Never too old to learn’ or ‘Knowledge is infinite’, it clearly states their importance and necessity in one’s life time. Education enables individuals to develope their potential capacity, complete construct knowledge and enhance personal quality. Since birth, a baby begins to learn to hear, talk, eat and everything around her through her parents; when at the age of 6 or even younger, they are sent to school to learn knowledge taught by teachers; from then on, their school lives begin until graduation from universities. Hence, school education really takes up a big proportion and plays an important role in a person’s whole lifetime. Then, taking an overview of different education systems all over the world, it presents a tendency of diversification, and each system has its own advantages and disadvantages. Meanwhile, China’s education system is a thing that is really worth pondering and studying carefully. Since reforming and opening up to the outside world, China’s education has made remarkable progress in its development; to this phenomenon, there may have an idea that education reform is not necessary. While we have to realize it still exists many disadvantages that needs to be solved urgently, which is connected to its current education situation. Therefore, China’s education system should be reformed deeply and reasonably.

本文认为中国的教育制度可以从三个方面进行改革,义务教育的普及,招生制度的完善,公考系统质量的提高。

Here can be the three aspects for the persons who consider Chinese education is good enough: the popularity of compulsory education, high quality of education and perfect admission system and public examinations system.

First, education in china has become all-pervading nowadays. In federal society, education was not thought highly of and only a small percentage of people were educated, not even women had the right to receive education. Now all these have changed and it spread every corner of the country. Everybody could have a chance to go to school. So is it the truth? Undoubtedly, it is definitely not. Comparatively speaking, the eastern part and coastal regions of china are well-developed, but not in the western part, such as Sichuan, Guizhou, Hunan and some other places. The development of education is bond to national economy. So does the education status. Especially in the rural areas, a family with several children, ample food and clothing is the only thing they are care about, let alone to afford the fee for every child to go to school. However, in recent years, many pop stars started to concern about this problem, for example, in 2005, Jacky Chen once donated two million yuan gathered from sports car races to the children who could not go to school; Zhang ziyi bought a bracelet with a price 12,000 yuan in 2009, which was used to help the uneducated children. Of course, many other stars and some charity organizations were also joining in this team to help the children needed. All these facts can prove that education in china is not all-pervading, especially in the rural areas. Since the rural

population accounts for the vast majority of the country's population, while not all of the children has accepted compulsory education. Therefore, to develope vigorously and achieve a real sense of polularity in compulsory education should be completed. And it calls for the attention from the governments and the persons in charge.

Second, quality of education has made great progress in a certain degree. Through china’s education mode, many students became famous scientists, scholars and educators. It is a fact that cannot be denied. However, compared to other countries, the number of people who won the Nobel Prize is quite small. So we have to recheck the so-called high quality education in china. From primary schools, middle schools to universities, students received a teacher-centered teaching style. Students in class do not have many chances for group work and most of their time are
